Benchmarks 2000

A Challenge for SREB States: Increasing the Percentage of Adults with a High School Diploma

By Joseph D. Creech

The first in the new Educational Benchmarks 2000 Series, this report takes a closer look at one of the 12 goals studied by the Educational Benchmarks reports. "By the year 2000, 90 percent of adults will have a high school diploma or its equivalent." As the year 2000 quickly approaches, how close are SREB states to achieving this goal? This report reveals encouraging news about states’ progress and encourages policy-makers not to lose sight of the work that remains to be done.
