Legislative Action
SREB follows education budgets and legislation during regular and special
legislative sessions. Current actions can be found in Legislative Reports
that are released on a timely basis during the months that SREB state
legislatures are in session, usually from January through July. These reports
follow education and budget issues from governors proposals through final
legislative actions in each of the 16 SREB states. The reports include bill
numbers and legislative Web site addresses, a feature that allows state
legislators and staff to access current legislation quickly.
The Legislative Briefing, a topical summary of budget and legislative
actions that affect elementary, secondary and higher education, is the final
report in the annual Legislative Report series. It includes actions in
areas such as K-12 and higher education budgets, pay raises, tuition increases,
accountability, education for young children, paying for college, safe schools
and education studies.
Legislative actions from past years
are described by topic in the annual Legislative
Briefing and by state in Final Legislative Actions.
Focus reports, brief papers on timely education topics, are released as
issues arise. These reports address topics such as teacher quality, charter
schools, teacher salaries, school safety and support for independent colleges.
