Tennessee Virtual University

Description

The Tennessee Virtual University is being discussed by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the Tennessee Board of Regents, the University of Tennessee and the Renaissance Center, a private technology facility in Jackson. The Virtual University would provide “one-stop shopping” for academic programs offered by Tennessee’s public higher-education institutions. It would include both credit and noncredit offerings in asynchronous delivery formats. The Renaissance Center would provide advising and training for faculty.

Tennessee Online Community College Consortium

Description

The Tennessee Online Community College Consortium involves five community colleges (Chattanooga State, Cleveland State, Pellissippi State, Roane State, and Walters State) established to provide online courses, programs and services. Through the Tennessee Online Community College Consortium, the colleges cooperate to meet the needs of “nontraditional” students. Distance learning courses are shared to provide complete degree programs, services are provided online, and students have convenient access to needed support from the participating colleges.

Tennessee Electronic Library

Description

The Tennessee Electronic Library provides various databases for libraries, including the public library system and private, academic and special libraries. The Tennessee Electronic Library will provide four services: subscriptions to commercial online products; organizational and technical support; computing storage; and training for Tennessee libraries. The Tennessee State Library and Archives will administer the Tennessee Electronic Library.
