Virtual College of Texas

Description

The Virtual College of Texas is a consortium of all accredited, public community and technical colleges in Texas. It includes 50 community college districts and the three colleges of the Texas State Technical College System. The Virtual College of Texas’ basic strategy is to share distance learning resources among the member colleges. These resources include telecommunications infrastructure, courses and curricula, faculty, student services, and administrative support.

Description

Texas Colleges On-Line is a Web site designed to provide links to Texas colleges and universities that offer courses via the Internet. Although not totally integrated into a statewide consortium or a similar arrangement, the site does provide links to public and private colleges and universities that offer distance learning.

TexShare

Description

TexShare is a library consortium designed to increase the effectiveness of library expenditures by enabling libraries at higher education institutions to share staff expertise and print and electronic library resources. TexShare also promotes joint purchasing agreements and cooperative research among participating institutions. Most of the state’s public and private colleges and universities participate in one or more of the four major services provided by the consortium: Interlibrary Loan Protocol, TexShare Library Card Program, TExpress Courier Service and Electronic Services for TexShare Members, which provides access to online databases.
