Research Associate, School Improvement Initiatives

| Position description: |
As a member of the research and evaluation team, this individual will be responsible for collecting
and analyzing data and information relevant to SREB’s school improvement initiatives. The candidate must
demonstrate strong writing skills and be able to work independently to complete research assignments. He
or she constantly interacts with other SREB staff, state agencies, districts and principals and other teacher
leaders at selected school improvement sites. The individual collects, organizes and analyzes data; researches
and prepares reports; responds to inquiries; continually updates and maintains information on specified topics;
creates PowerPoint presentations; drafts and prepares correspondence; and other duties as assigned.

| Position qualifications: |
At least a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, with experience in education research; and
working knowledge of Office-based computer software to organize and analyze data, maintain databases and
produce reports and Internet research. Excellent writing skills are required.

Web Programmer

| Position description: |
America's first interstate compact for education, the Southern Regional Education Board is a nonprofit,
nonpartisan organization that helps government and education leaders in its 16 member states work together
to advance education and improve the social and economic life of the region seeks a qualified Web Programmer.
SREB is continually moving internal and external systems to web-based interfaces. The programmer would
be involved in implementation of these systems in all level of the project including requirements, design,
coding, testing and rollout. Position will deal with both static and interactive pages, often systems
providing public access to databases. Systems incorporate HTML, XML, C#, SQL and JavaScript.
Development is in an environment incorporating IIS6, SQL Server and .Net framework. The Web Programmer
is expected to take an active role in the current redesign of the organization’s primary Web site, and
will help maintain the organization’s Web sites when opened. Position will work closely with the Director
of IT and IT staff in the development and implementation of projects. Other duties as assigned.

| Position qualifications: |
Candidate must have experience developing interactive Web sites in a Microsoft based environment. Knowledge
of C# and HTML in developing ASP.NET pages a must as well as experience with SQL and SQL Server databases.
Experience with SSL, JavaScript and XML is a plus. Candidate must have good oral and written communication
skills and will work extensively with internal clients. Some Web content development may be required. The
ideal candidate should be comfortable working alone much of the time but also able to work in a small team
environment. Also must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. Experience in an
education or non-profit environment is a plus.
