High Schools That Work (HSTW), Technology Centers That Work (TCTW) and Making Middle Grades Work (MMGW) are data-driven, research-based school improvement initiatives. Using assessment and survey tools, participating states, districts and schools can establish baseline data, identify areas for improvement and track progress over time.

The primary tools are the HSTW Assessment and the Middle Grades Assessment. These assessments, required in even-numbered years, include subject tests in reading, mathematics and science, coupled with student and teacher surveys. Schools receive comprehensive reports disaggregating student achievement by school and classroom experiences. Link to assessments and additional surveys below.
