SREB bridges the divide between school leadership theory and practice through its work in research and field building. Staff members in the Learning-Centered Leadership Program (LCLP) provide policy-makers and practitioners with research focusing on timely issues in school leadership, as well as benchmark reports that evaluate state policy and practice against other states and against research-based best practices.  The goal is to create a sense of urgency in state leaders for change.

Research

West Virginia Senator Roman Prezioso, an SREB Board member, meets with participants at the 2009 Annual Leadership Forum
The LCLP research team conducts reviews of literature, original research, and program evaluation for state, university, district and foundation clients around issues of school leadership and leadership development. The team also conducts a benchmark study of state policy in the 16-state region every two years.

Field Building

SREB hosts the Annual Leadership Forum to focus on progress toward the SREB Challenge to Lead goal of putting a highly qualified and effective leader in every public school to improve instruction and student learning. Teams of policy-makers, university faculty and district leaders come together to analyze progress on identifying, preparing, developing and supporting high quality leaders for every school. This is a rich opportunity to connect the findings of research with the people responsible for implementing more effective leader development practices.
