SREB provides extensive information to assist education leaders and lawmakers in all 16 member states as they shape public policy in K-20 education. SREB's Education Policies team continually tracks trends and analyzes the progress of all 16 member states in every area addressed in the SREB Challenge to Lead goals.

SREB's policy researchers examine NAEP and state assessment results, higher education data and other key information from SREB education agencies, issue detailed reports on specific goals and topics, and recommend the policy changes and next steps that can help state education leaders and policy-makers improve student performance.

Over the past year, the team looked at gains in reading and mathematics achievement in the early grades and traced increases in student participation and success in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs. Reports to state leaders on SREB states' achievement in the middle grades and high school are the main focus of the group's work in 2009.
