Technology Centers That Work: An Enhanced Design to Get All Students to Standards

Each year, SREB hosts a national forum convening state and local career/technical education leaders to discuss the role and future of shared-time centers. This forum provides a unique opportunity to focus exclusively on shared-time technology centers. Even centers that have not joined the TCTW network should have concerns about the future of shared-time centers and whether or not these centers are serving both the technical and the academic needs of their students.

2011 TCTW Forum


This third annual TCTW forum led participants in addressing concerns about the future of these shared-time centers and discussions of whether they are meeting a dual mission of preparing students for both careers and further study by teaching the technical and academic skills and knowledge high school students need. 2010 TCTW Forum

The second annual TCTW Forum provided participants with a unique opportunity to explore the future of shared-time technology centers, their role in broader high school reform and key strategies needed to improve student achievement. Participants discussed strategies for broadening the definition of rigor and improving instruction to address technical, academic and 21st-century knowledge and skills. 2009 TCTW Forum

In January 2009, SREB held its first TCTW forum, which focused on forming a vision for the future of shared-time centers. The objectives of the forum were to: reach consensus on the criteria to be used in measuring success of shared-time tech centers; create a national discussion centered on the future of shared-time centers; and create operational strategies related to guidance and advisement, scheduling, working with sending schools and other concerns expressed by participants.
