Additional resources around the college- and career-readiness agenda are sorted under six detailed topics.

SREB SSCRI Meetings:
SREB continues to hold meetings with state officials and consultants related to the College- and Career-Readiness Initiative. As the project began, SREB held evaluation meetings within Texas, Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland to conduct interviews with state education leaders, K-12 and higher education administrators, and faculty and teachers throughout each state. These meetings helped SREB produce state progress reports and recommendations for improvement in these four states. See SREB’s progress reports for Texas, Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland.

SREB held a Convening of the States in December 2009, where the organization invited representation from five states to come to Atlanta to discuss each state’s progress, promising practices that were emerging, challenges and future plans (at the time, Florida had not joined the SREB College- and Career-Readiness Initiative). Gubernatorial, legislative, and state agency representatives attended the two-day meeting from Texas, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland and West Virginia, including the First Lady of West Virginia, Mrs. Gayle Manchin. Also in attendance was a representative from Achieve and several expert education consultants hired by SREB to assist with the state evaluations and policy development. See the 2009 SREB Convening of the States Agenda.

SREB held a Second State Convening in October 2010 in Richmond, Virginia, for all six states to come together again to examine the project’s progress and tackle challenges faced by the state leaders. SREB again hosted gubernatorial, legislative, and state agency representatives, as well as local K-12 and higher education faculty from the states, as well as various national and regional education experts, and a representative from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Topics discussed at the meeting can be seen on the 2010 SREB Second Convening of the States Agenda.
