Profile

Joan M. Lord joined the Southern Regional Education Board in 2001; she currently serves as vice president for education data, policy research and programs. She oversees SREB’s policy research efforts, including compilation of SREB’s Fact Book on Higher Education and progress on SREB’s Challenge to Lead 2020 goals for education. Joan also coordinates SREB’s Go Alliance, Doctoral Scholars Program, Education Technology Cooperative, Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing, student access programs and services, and information technology. She brings more than 40 years of experience working on issues of policy and practice from K-12 through graduate education. While at SREB, she has worked with numerous policy commissions, written policy briefs and reports on a variety of education topics, and periodically updated the Challenge to Lead goals for education. She completed a bachelor’s degree at Vanderbilt University, a master’s degree at Florida State University and a Ph.D. at Georgia State University.
