SREB-SCORE
Helping Member States Share Digital Course Content
The goals of SCORE are to improve teaching and learning and achieve costs
savings through a multistate K-12 and higher education initiative to share
digital learning course content among colleges, universities and schools in SREB
states.
An acronym for Sharable Content Object Repositories for Education, SCORE
places reviewed course content in databases (repositories) to which all
participating states have access. These modular pieces of course content —
learning objects — are then easy for teachers and faculty to access and use to
improve the quality of their courses.
SCORE is a good idea for SREB states because it:
- establishes school and college relationships to create, license and
provide high-quality content;
- provides cost-effective learning resources for K-20 by sharing
development costs among states and commercial companies;
- reduces duplication of effort;
- increases faculty and student productivity; and
- adheres to e-learning standards.

What makes SCORE unique? SCORE membership is limited to SREB state education
agencies and schools or colleges designated by the state agency. Each
participating state provides the assurance of accuracy, completeness and quality
of digital course content — learning objects — in conformance with
SREB's Principles of
Effective Learning Objects guidelines. Digital learning content will be organized
and classified using the SREB-SCORE Learning Object Metadata. Digital learning objects are housed in
multiple repositories in state agencies and accessed on the Web through a common
registry.
