Rights, Risks and Responsibilities:
Students and the Internet
By Jennifer Burke
Student access to the
Internet has increased dramatically in the last few years. With this
increased access comes the possibility of children's exposure to
sexually explicit or violent materials. However, protecting students
is only one part of the equation. Rights, Risks and Responsibility
Students and the Internet describes ways that schools across the
region are educating students about wise use of the Internet while
providing the protections demanded by parents and policy-makers.
Keywords: acceptable-use policies,
appropriate-use policies, blocking, child safety, filtering,
pornography, proxy servers, schools, student safety, violence
