Making Middle Grades Work
Listserv Information

Making Middle Grades Work hosts several listservs to facilitate communication across the middle grades network:

  • Middle grades sites — for school principals, site coordinators or other interested staff members
  • Middle grades — for state coordinators
  • District — for district personnel

A listserv is an e-mail discussion forum. Any member of the list can send a message to the list’s e-mail address and that message will be sent out automatically to all members of the list. Any information you wish to share with listserv members can be sent to this group e-mail address. However, there are several guidelines to follow when posting to the listserv:

  • Please keep your messages related to the list topic: Making Middle Grades Work. Occasional off-topic posts are allowed, but remember that subscribers to this list want to explore ideas related to the topic. Off-topic posts distract users from the list’s intended purpose.
  • Do not post virus warnings or spam (the electronic equivalent of junk mail) to the list.
  • Avoid posts that include copies of previous messages or of the entire digest. Delete unnecessary past messages from the body of your e-mail before you send it. If you have a document or article you wish to send, please send it as an attachment instead of pasting it into the e-mail. This will avoid cluttering in boxes with large, repetitive e-mails.
  • Please read your e-mail before you send it to ensure that you are aware of what you are sending to the list members.
  • When replying to a post, remember that you are replying to the entire listserv. Consider sending a private message in response to someone’s post instead of replying to the entire list. To do this, you would need to enter that person’s e-mail address. If you hit “reply,” you will be replying to the entire listserv. If you feel your response would be important and appropriate for the entire list, reply to the list address.
  • If you want to suggest someone to subscribe or if you want to unsubscribe from the list, please send an e-mail to mmgm@sreb.org. In the title field, type either SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE. In the body of the message, list whom you want to subscribe and why or, if you are unsubscribing, why you wish to do so.

If you want to receive the list in digest mode (all the e-mail for a day will be placed into one e-mail sent out at the end of the day), send an e-mail to listserv@sreb.org and type “set mode digest [YOUR LIST NAME]” in the title field. If you decide to return to standard mode (each e-mail is sent out separately as it is received), send an e-mail to listserv@sreb.org and type “set mode standard [YOUR LIST NAME]” in the title field.
