What’s New For States and Sites
Congratulations to our most veteran sites, who joined our network four years
ago. Many of these sites have made great strides in raising student achievement
and implementing the MMGW framework. Read about their promising practices in the
Outstanding
Practices section for middle grades.
Making Middle Grades Work is scaling up to a national network. If your state is interested in joining, please e-mail toni.eubank@sreb.org
We welcome Idaho and South Dakota as our newest states.
Making Middle Grades Work is an approved model for Comprehensive School
Reform (CSR) grants. SREB will provide three years of on-site facilitation to
schools that select MMGW as the model for CSR. For more information, contact
SREB at (404) 879-5588.
Making Middle Grades Work is pleased to be involved in SREB's Successful
Transitions Initiative, targeting middle grades and receiving high school sites
in urban areas. Successful Transitions sites in Huntsville, Alabama; Little
Rock, Arkansas; Atlanta, Georgia; Dekalb County, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi;
and Guilford County, North Carolina, have joined our network.
As a result of the 2001 Ninth-Grade Follow-up Study, SREB has identified
several experiences in the middle grades that are tied to success in grade nine.
Read about these findings in the research brief Mending
a Weak Link. For more information, e-mail Allison Timberlake at
