Description
Graduate students will examine the various activities inherent in the role of nurse educator, with emphasis on the development and use of traditional and creative teaching methods in nursing education.
 

Objectives
Upon completion of Nursing 531, the student will be able to:

• examine teaching, scholarship, service and collegial aspects of the nurse educator role;
• analyze traditional and innovative methodological models of teaching in relation to the patterns of knowing in nursing; and
• explore a range of teaching methods relevant to selected nursing education settings.

• Components of the Nurse Educator Role: teaching, scholarship, service, collegial
• Patterns of Knowing in Nursing: personal, empirical, ethical, aesthetic
• Framework for Integration: purpose, content, method
• Teaching Approaches: lecture, discussion, clinical practicum, mediated

Teaching/Learning Methods
Graduate students will have assigned and selected reading and media and participate in online dialogue and microteaching.
