Course Overview
This course is for doctoral students who have had courses or experience in
nursing education. The students will examine the nature of graduate education and its
implications for contemporary nursing education.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of Nursing 7370, the student will be able to:
- analyze master's degree programs based on specific characteristics;
- describe the history, objectives, common practices, indicators of
quality and issues in master's nursing education; and
- describe the history, goals, objectives, common practices, indicators of
quality and issues in doctoral nursing education.

- Doctoral Education and Postdoctoral Education in Nursing
Learning Activities
Weekly assignments will address the issues identified in the outline, including
an analysis of a master's program.
Teaching Methods
This course is conducted in a totally online format, including student
presentations and class discussions. Student will use textbooks, online
resources and library references in the development of assignments.
Required Text
None
Technical Requirements
- Access to the Internet, Microsoft Word, Acrobat Reader, Antivirus Software
(updated weekly), Microsoft Front Page (HTML editor) and PowerPoint.
- Internet Explorer is the preferred browser for WebCT. Browser settings can be
determined and downloaded from the WebCT site.
- Completion of the online WebCT tutorial to facilitate orientation and use of
the course components.
