Course Description
This course introduces the student to the process of curriculum development.
Students will examine the teaching, learning and evaluation processes from the
perspective of education and nursing research and analyze factors that influence
curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of NURS 5371, the student will be able to:
- analyze a variety of approaches to curriculum development;
- analyze nursing curricula to determine the influence of philosophy and
theories of learning;
- explain the evaluation process in making curricular decisions;
- use curriculum development and evaluation process to develop
instructional plans; and
- use research findings to support positions of curricular issues.

Teaching/Learning Activities
The instructor will provide online modules with questions to guide the learning
experience and encourage online participation in discussions. Students are expected
to contribute to each module discussion. Also, students will develop a unit of
instruction for a generic baccalaureate nursing program, a staff development
program, or as an article for continuing education credit for publishing in a
professional journal along with corresponding multiple-choice test items.

Course Description
This course focuses on the investigation of the roles of the educator in
contemporary nursing. It provides an opportunity for graduate students to
design, implement and evaluate learning experiences in nursing programs, staff
development and/or continuing education. Emphasis is on the application of
teaching, learning and evaluation strategies. It includes a 90-hour practicum.
Objectives
Upon completion of NURS 5372, the student will be able to:
- Examine the interactive nature of teaching and learning.
- Apply teaching strategies in an educational setting.
- Analyze methods of evaluation in the education of nurses.
- Use educational research findings in teaching nurses.
- Experience selected roles of the teacher.
- Analyze issues and trends in the education of nurses.
Teaching/Learning Methods
Students will participate in a clinical teaching practicum, write practicum logs
and conduct a clinical conference. They will also engage in student-to-student
and student-to-instructor discussions via Discussion Board.
