How to Apply

The application deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year
has passed.
|
To apply:
1) make sure your institution is a
participant in the
SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program;
2) complete and submit your application packet to the
address below before the April 3rd deadline. Your application packet will
contain:

a completed
New Scholar Application Form;
-
all items required by the Checklist for the type of
award being applied for, as noted below.
FOR THE DOCTORAL SCHOLARS AWARD
Five-Year Package
The Doctoral Scholars Program Award offers scholars three years of direct
program support and two years of institutional support. Each scholar is also
awarded up to five years of tuition and fees (in-state or out-of-state), an
annual stipend of up to $15,000, and expenses to attend the Doctoral Scholars
Program annual meeting: the Compact for Faculty Diversity's Institute on
Teaching and Mentoring. Support in the final two years of the award is provided
by the institution. Awardees also receive support for professional development
activities.
To apply, you must have been admitted (or be awaiting admission) to at
least one Ph.D. - granting institution within a participating state. You
must be admitted to your program prior to the fall academic award cycle that
begins in August.

This checklist must accompany your application materials. This award
is for scholars beginning a doctoral program, with plans to become
a faculty member upon completion.
FOR THE DISSERTATION YEAR AWARD
One-Year Package
For doctoral scholars who have reached the dissertation stage, a limited
number of single-year fellowships are available. These awards are only available
to scholars who plan to become full-time faculty members upon completion of the
doctoral program. Applicants must meet the same eligibility requirements as the
Doctoral Scholar Award. Applicants must also be able to devote themselves full
time to completing the dissertation.
Each Dissertation Year Award recipient receives a one-year stipend of up to
$15,000, a waiver of tuition and fees, $500 for research expenses, and expenses
to attend the Doctoral Scholars Program annual meeting: the Compact for Faculty
Diversity's Institute on Teaching and Mentoring.
To apply, you must have completed all course work,
comprehensive/preliminary exams and defended your Dissertation Prospectus
(or will have prior to the beginning of the academic year).

This checklist must accompany your application materials. This award
is for scholars who will have completed comprehensive exams, defended their
prospectus before the academic year begins, and plan to become a faculty member
on a college or university campus upon completion of their Ph.D.

If you would like to be notified that your packet was received, you may send
it via a traceable method (UPS, FEDEX, USPS Registered Mail) or send a stamped,
self-addressed postcard, and we will mail it upon receipt.
(Applications become the property of the SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program
and are destroyed after selections are made for the academic year. If you are
not selected and wish to reapply, you need to notify the Doctoral Scholars
program before the next application deadline.)
