Session Types and Guidelines
The conference will include a variety of session types
and formats to meet the diverse interests of our participants, whether
they are new to the HSTW or MMGW networks, or in advanced
stages of implementing the Key Practices. There are codes throughout the
program to aid in selecting sessions. All sessions will be 60 minutes
long except for those held on Saturday, which will be 90-minute
sessions.
Continuous School Improvement Sessions (CI)
(theater-style seating)
These sessions focus on how schools fully implement the
HSTW and MMGW framework of Goals and Key Practices to
achieve whole-school reform and raise student achievement. Teams of
educators from states, systems and school sites will share how these
frameworks are used to change what and how they teach and to raise
student achievement. Presenters will describe how they gained teacher
and community support to encourage students to work harder to meet
higher standards.
Technology Centers That Work
(TCTW)
(theater-style seating)
These sessions feature an individual or team sharing how
using the
Technology Centers That Work
design improves the quality of career/technical
instruction to advance both academic and technical achievement.
(Implementation of the federal Carl Perkins legislation will be included
in this goal and objective.)
Outstanding Practices Presentations (OP)
(theater-style seating)
These sessions feature an individual or team explaining
how to lead full implementation of the HSTW or MMGW
framework of Goals and Key Practices. Participants will collect
information and learn successful strategies for improving school and
classroom instruction and raising student achievement.
Invited Specialist Presentations (IS)
(theater-style seating)
These sessions feature an individual or team with a
proven record of implementing one or more aspects of the HSTW or
MMGW framework of Goals and Key Practices in ways that show
improved student achievement and increased high school completion rates.
Recognized School and Educator Presentations (RSE)
(theater-style seating)
These sessions feature schools and educators who have
been recognized by peers and others for their success in advancing
student achievement. They will share their secrets for motivating
students to produce higher-quality work.
Mini-Sharing Sessions (MS)
(round-table seating for 10–12 people)
These 25-minute sharing sessions allow participants to
gather information from a variety of presenters and to brainstorm with
others on a variety of topics. These sessions may be a condensed version
of a full session and include handouts describing an outstanding
practice or project.
