Comprehensive School Reform: Making a Difference in Improving High Schools

by Gene Bottoms, Lingling Han and Alice Presson

States and school districts are discovering that a small investment can yield positive returns for schools that implement the HSTW Goals and Key Practices to produce more graduates who are ready for college and a career. Through HSTW technical assistance visits, school-based staff development, conferences, workshops, publications and NAEP-based assessments, teams of school and teacher leaders from low-performing schools learned how to make needed changes in improving student performance - and made more progress in raising student achievement than similar schools that failed to receive such assistance.
