by Gene Bottoms and Alice Presson
Since 1987 the Southern Regional Education Board-State Vocational Education
Consortium has worked with high schools (now more than 1,000 schools in 23
states) to produce significant advances in the reading, mathematics and science
achievement of vocational students. This publication describes the progress that
has been made, the "things that matter" in increasing student
performance, and some actions that states, districts and schools can take to
improve student achievement in the future.
