Nurse Educator Competencies

Without effective intervention, a shortage of registered nurses in the SREB region could cause serious consequences for the delivery of health care. This shortage includes an inadequate supply of nurses who are prepared to teach. Addressing this problem will require successful recruitment of students and the preparation of more nurse educators. What competencies should these nurse educators have? This publication outlines the 37 expected competencies that can serve as a guide to graduate programs that train nurse educators as well as to the nurses who may consider serving in that role.
