Reading Reform in the SREB States: Early Assessment

Assessing children’s ability to read at an early age is a key factor in helping teachers to design instructional programs that respond to children’s individual needs and give them the necessary foundation to become successful readers. Developing meaningful, early assessments for reading is one of the primary challenges that states face in their efforts to improve reading. This report describes some SREB states’ approaches to this important aspect of reading reform
