Focus on Teacher Salaries: Recent Actions in the SREB States

The sluggish economy and other factors will affect states' ability to fund teacher pay raises in the coming year. Competitive salaries often are cited as a way to attract and retain highly qualified teachers. This paper summarizes the latest on average salaries, including recent actions to increase teacher pay, legislative actions affecting employee benefits, incentive pay, and studies on school finance and other issues that affect teachers.
