The SREB Doctoral Scholars Program helps diversify the faculty of the nation’s colleges and universities by supporting doctoral students of color. Support for program students includes financial assistance and research funding, career counseling, mentoring, and an annual conference where members learn and support one another.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Communications and Program Assistant develops a variety of communications for print, web, email and social media. This position also provides a variety of administrative support including email communication with students and recordkeeping.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Developing, monitoring and maintaining program’s social media presence
  • Developing print materials, including developing and editing text and coordinating design and production
  • Maintaining web content for the Doctoral Scholars Program and the Institute
  • Coordinating printing, video and photography needs for the Program and the Institute
  • Composing routine written/email correspondence and communication to scholars
  • Assisting with maintaining program databases
  • Assisting with compilation and analysis of information and data for reports and presentations and creating tables and documents for research
  • Coordinating and arranging routine meetings, preparing agendas, reserving and preparing facilities, and preparing meeting minutes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Higher Education Administration and at least two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in an academic environment
  • Familiarity with grants and contract management a plus
  • Write clearly and informatively
  • Edit accurately
  • Ability to learn new content, skills, and tools
  • Use content management systems, email marketing platforms, social media and web analytics
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Handle multiple tasks in timely, accurate and consistent manner
  • Develop alternative solutions to problems and work well in group problem-solving situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), web research strategies and online communication technologies
