Senator Joyce Elliott of Little Rock Chairs SREB Legislative Council
Tom Dickson of Georgia serves as vice chair
Atlanta, GA — State Senator Joyce Elliott of Little Rock, Arkansas, has been elected chair of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Legislative Advisory Council. State Representative Tom Dickson of Cohutta, Georgia, was elected vice chair.
Elliott, a former high school English teacher and Arkansas state representative, was named to SREB’s Board and LAC in 2009. She also serves on SREB’s Executive Committee and Finance Committee.
“SREB provides a rare nonpartisan forum for legislators to come together to share what works and explore what research tells us about the critical education issues of our day,” said Elliott.
Dickson, a retired educator and former district superintendent, was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2004 and appointed to the SREB Legislative Advisory Council in 2008.
Elliott and Dickson assume the offices next week. Elliott succeeds Maryland Senator Norman H. Conway of Salisbury as LAC chair, and Dickson follows Elliott in the role of vice chair.
SREB is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works with 16 member states to improve public education. SREB’s Legislative Advisory Council convenes legislative leaders in education from each state to guide SREB programs. Members stay abreast of educational progress and legislative action in states across the SREB region and share effective statewide policy to improve education.
