October Institute Postponed Until Early 2022

Post

The SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program has been closely monitoring the trajectory of positive COVID-19 Delta variant cases. Given concerns for scholars’ and guests’ health and safety, we have come to the difficult decision to POSTPONE the 2021 Institute on Teaching and Mentoring, which was previously scheduled as an in-person event October 28-31, 2021 in Arlington, Virginia. The event will be rescheduled in a virtual format in early 2022. Additional information regarding the virtual event will be forthcoming.

The decision to postpone the October 2021 Institute was not taken lightly. Keys to this decision are the rising COVID infection rates; travel uncertainty, limitation, and restrictions; housing (room-share requirements); group and individual cancellations to date; and the uncertainties that still exist about the pandemic this fall. Taken together, these factors made the decision to postpone seem prudent, as our top priority is the safety, health and well-being of our scholars, guests, staff, and other attendees.

We are committed to exploring other options to deliver the Institute experience in a virtual format, as we were able to do in April. We deeply regret that some scholars will miss in-person interaction two consecutive years, and we are committed to finding the best ways we can to bring you together virtually. The SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program thanks all our supporters for their continued patience and understanding as we plan a safe and workable alternative.
