Gale Gaines joined the Southern Regional Education Board in 1987 as a research associate on the state services team and served as vice president for State Services for 12 years. She brings more than 35 years of experience in education policy and practice, mostly in the public education sector. At SREB, she has focused on the informational needs of legislators, governors and their staff, as well as other state policymakers. She has authored and co-authored more than 200 SREB reports on legislation, state budgets, the economy, school finance, education accountability, teacher and higher education faculty salaries, and other issues. Prior to joining SREB, Gale served as an education policy analyst in a governor’s office, assistant director of purchasing and risk management coordinator at a junior college, director of a private preschool and kindergarten, and college faculty member. Gale holds a master’s degree from the College of Education at Florida State University.
