Special Assistant to President
Sam Nancarrow joined the Southern Regional Education Board in 2015 as a special assistant in the office of the president. His initial interaction with SREB came when he participated in several SREB Early Childhood Commission meetings as a legislative director in the Texas House of Representatives. Since joining the organization, Sam has completed a report on personalized learning, contributed to the SREB Commission on Computer Science, and helped to manage the organization’s grant-writing and reporting operations. Formerly with the Texas House of Representatives, Sam worked during the 82nd, 83rd, and 84th legislative sessions and helped develop and secure passage of education-related legislation that diversified state school accountability measures, reformed student testing policies, created new intervention and innovation opportunities for school districts, established a new high-quality prekindergarten program, and re-established Literacy and Mathematics Achievement Academies for teachers. Sam holds a bachelor’s in government and a bachelor’s in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin.
