Jump Starting Healthcare Careers
Wellstar Nursing Career Pathways in Metro Atlanta

Post October 2020

Students at three metro Atlanta high schools can jump-start their health care careers through Wellstar’s Nursing Career Pathway ─ while earning their diplomas and preparing for further study in nursing. It begins with rising high school students and continues through dual high school-college credits to certifications and college nursing degrees.

High school graduates of the program are guaranteed interviews for certified nursing assistant positions at Wellstar. Students can progress seamlessly to Chattahoochee Technical College to earn licensed practical nurse credentials, then earn an associate degree that transfers to Georgia Highlands College to complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing and become a registered nurse.

The Southern Regional Education Board facilitated the process among Wellstar Health System and a coalition of partners. The pathway program was inspired by Georgia State Senator Lindsay Tippins and an ongoing partnership between the lieutenant governor’s office, Wellstar Health System, the Technical College System of Georgia, the University System of Georgia, Chattahoochee Technical College, Georgia Highlands College, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Department of Education, Cobb, Paulding and Marietta City Schools and the Georgia Board of Nursing.

“This is a real model for how schools, colleges and businesses can come together to forge clear pathways,” said SREB President Stephen Pruitt.
