Draft PEPSC Plan

Members of the North Carolina Professional Educator and Preparation Standards Commission, PEPSC, received a draft revised plan on March 10, 2022, updating the original proposal submitted for consideration to the State Board of Education by the North Carolina Education Human Capital Roundtable in 2021. The draft plan was also presented to the State Board of Education in an informational session on April 7, 2022. PEPSC formed four stakeholder subcommittees to revise the work of the Roundtable and now enters their final revision phase. PEPSC is expected to present a final plan to the North Carolina State Board of Education for approval later in 2022.

Roundtable Presentation to the State Board of Education

Members of the North Carolina Education Human Capital Roundtable presented to the state Board of Education on February 4, 2021. The group outlined the roundtable’s vision for transforming the teaching profession in North Carolina, which includes offering early, inclusive, clear passageway into the profession, rewarding excellence and advancement, and encouraging retention.

North Carolina Education Human Capital Roundtable

Presentation to the NC Board of Education

SREB presented the recommendations of the North Carolina Education Human Capital Roundtable to the state’s board of education in January 2021. After two years of collaboration and study, the roundtable proposed strategies for holistic policy change to transform the teaching profession from recruitment to retirement. Strategies include modifying licensure requirements to diversify the teaching force, providing better support for early career teachers, and building multiple pathways into the teaching profession.
