The Perkins V Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment

The federal Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, known as Perkins V, requires agencies to conduct a comprehensive local needs assessment to guide their local applications. These needs assessments must address six areas:

  • Performance on federal accountability indicators
  • Alignment with labor market needs
  • Scope, size and quality of programs offered
  • Progress toward implementing CTE programs and programs of study
  • Recruitment, retention and training of faculty and staff
  • Progress toward improving access and equity

SREB held a webinar to help states determine what guidance and resources to provide local education agencies as they conduct their comprehensive local needs assessments. Representatives from Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina will discuss tools and strategies and answer participants’ questions.
