Position Description
The Project Director for Benchmarking will oversee SREB’s new effort to develop and produce a comprehensive benchmarking report to assess the depth of state implementation of the Common Core State Standards. The Benchmarking component is a major component of the organization’s broader initiative, Advancing Common Core Standards, Educator Effectiveness, and College Readiness in SREB States. Work related to the Benchmarking component includes:
1) development of key indicators;
2) in-depth research into the level of implementation in each of the 16 SREB states; and
3) reports on the status and progress in the SREB states.
The Benchmarking work entails document reviews, surveys, telephone interviews and face-to-face interviews in the states to assess state efforts on the new indicators. The Director will work with state and local education officials, advocacy organizations and university teacher preparation programs to assess state progress against the key indicators. Individual state baseline reports highlighting policy and practice challenges and exemplars in the states and across the region will be produced during the first year of the grant and progress reports in the third year of the grant. The reports will highlight state progress on the indicators and be published and disseminated to state educational leaders and governmental policy-makers. The reports will be featured in a range of convenings, including a briefing meeting for state teams composed of a legislative leader, representative of the governor, and the state schools chief.
The Project Director for Benchmarking will work with an advisory panel composed of regional and national education leaders and research experts to assist in the development of indicators of common core state standards and effective teaching implementation. The panel also will review the indicators after the first benchmarking report and recommend any necessary adjustments.
The Project Director for Benchmarking will supervise a research associate to assist with this work and collaborate with several SREB staff on this work, including the Vice President for Educator Effectiveness and SREB’s policy and research associates. The Director will report to the Special Assistant to the President.
Position Requirements
Master’s degree with experience in education research required; doctoral degree preferred. In-depth understanding of benchmarks and the common core state standards required. State- or national-level experience with benchmarking preferred. The candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication, analytical and writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with policymakers and practitioners. He/she will interact with other SREB staff, state agencies, consultants and others.

The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to research, analyze, synthesize, and communicate complex policy issues clearly. The candidate will be able to meet deadlines while balancing multiple responsibilities and meeting high expectations for quality. They must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively. The candidate must demonstrate exemplary writing, research, and analytical skills.
The policy analyst researches and analyzes education data for policy briefs, develops text for publications, communicates with constituent audiences (including members of the media, personnel in state education agency offices, legislators and their staff) and helps senior SREB staff prepare for high-level briefings. This individual reports to the Director of Education Policies.

Position Description
SREB seeks candidates with skills and knowledge to support and maintain SREB websites, custom software , and computer systems. The individual should be able to provide Web-mastering, Web-editing, application troubleshooting and, application programming/editing. The individual should be able to perform basic trouble-shooting on computer hardware, including one-on-one trouble shooting of workstation problems of end-users.
The individual should have experience in providing helpdesk support to end-users. The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the IT department to provide support, programming and maintenance for online services of the SREB Web sites. The position reports to the director of Information Technology and provides assistance for those using SREB's computing resources.
Responsibilities include the following
- Develop, maintain and support Microsoft Access applications and SQL databases.
- Design, create, maintain and support SQL databases.
- Assist software development teams with large programming projects.
- Assist in maintaining web-based content and support internal web sites.
- Help to plan and organize future web sites and servers.
- Provide basic troubleshooting of Web page/Web server issues.
- Assist in troubleshooting Web-based database and connectivity errors.
- Prepare reports by collecting and analyzing relevant information.
- Maintain records on trouble-ticket and problem resolution, on equipment inventory and other related information.
- Prepare new computers for delivery to end users, including software installation and configuration.
- Provide telephone technical support for SREB employees and website clients as needed.

Skills/Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a college/technical degree. The candidate will have broad experience in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Operating Systems, desktop and laptop hardware including some routine maintenance, TCP/IP, basic network troubleshooting, 802.1 lx wireless networks, Outlook and Exchange Server environment, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access.

Position Description
SREB seeks an Administrative Assistant candidate with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, shift to new projects quickly, work on multiple ongoing assignments throughout the work day and work with multiple project managers and directors in providing ongoing technical assistance to schools and states.
Responsibilities
Reporting to multiple program directors, this individual will work with the High Schools That Work (HSTW) State Services, State Contracted Services and other programs in all aspects of operations, including responding to information requests from schools, state and local leaders; producing correspondence, reports and proposals; maintaining communications and support for field staff and program participants; and providing organizational support to directors.
Duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining multiple databases and tracking the status of reports; working collaboratively with other administrative staff, the executive assistant to the senior vice president and an editor to complete draft reports; maintaining records and calendars for staff; preparing materials for presentations and workshops; assisting with travel arrangements; and other administrative duties as needed.
Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate can work collaboratively and independently to meet time-sensitive deadlines, have excellent organizational and time-management skills, work effectively in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate ability to work on multiple ongoing assignments and work for more than one person. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. The Southern Regional Education Board has partnered with the Georgia Department of Education to develop a contemporary curriculum in advanced manufacturing that will integrate both academic and technical content standards through the application of project/problem based learning. The curriculum will be for high schools, one course for each grade 9-12.
Priority will be given to persons with the following qualifications:

Position Description:
The Southern Regional Education Board is currently seeking two contracted curriculum writers to work with a panel of experts in the Health Informatics field to prepare curriculum documents, using an established Preparation For Tomorrow model. The position requires telecommuting and use of SharePoint to collaborate with a team of academic and industry experts. There will be limited travel to Columbus, Ohio, to attend meetings of expert panels. Writers report directly to the Project Manager, and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Writers will be compensated per each completed product, with half of the compensation upon presentation of the first draft of the product, and the remainder upon completion of final revised products. Work begins in October 2011and continues through May 2012, with the opportunity to renew the contract for a second year for the development of two additional courses in Health Informatics.

Duties include working collaboratively with a team of industry and academic experts to develop curriculum for a high school career/technical curriculum in the Health Informatics field. Each curriculum writer will be assigned three projects to develop into fully developed units of study within strict deadlines to ensure field testing of curriculum in fall 2012.
Position Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have superior technical writing skills, experience in curriculum development and curriculum writing, the ability to work in an online and face-to-face environment and strong understanding of mathematics (especially statistical analysis) and scientific inquiry and investigation. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the Health Informatics or Allied Health field.
