Research Associate, Leadership


Position Description
As a member of the Learning-Centered Leadership team, this individual will assist in the management and completion of evaluation studies, including literature reviews, research design, instrument development, onsite data collection, data analysis, and report writing. Determine and specify details of evaluation studies, including sources of information; procedures to be used; design of survey instruments, interview protocols, and observation protocols. Collaborate with team in the planning, implementation, and analysis of data. Coordinate and conduct data collection activities including interviews, structured observations, focus groups, and collection of specified documents. Analyze data using the appropriate analysis tools and identifying relationships and trends in data. Review work of team to ensure use of appropriate methodology; accuracy; completeness and adherence to quality standards. Capture methods, findings and conclusions in a range of output products including reports, executive summaries, Web-based interfaces, PowerPoint presentations and other media as required. Write parts of proposals and/or grants. Develop and apply writing and communication skills to interact with a variety of audiences. Position will require some travel.

Skills/Qualifications
At least a master’s degree, with earned doctorate preferred. Experience designing evaluation research, data collection instruments, and conducting both independent and collaborative data analysis. Experience working in a range of school settings, with well-honed skills in conducting telephone and face-to-face interviews and focus groups. Strong technical proficiency required in online survey tools and all Microsoft Office 2007 tools. Proficiency in SPSS is a plus. Excellent writing skills are required.


School Improvement Specialist, Mathematics


Position Description
SREB seeks candidates with extensive skills and knowledge related to mathematics curriculum and instruction to support schools and districts to improve student achievement in mathematics. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Atlanta. The position will require some travel. This position reports directly to the senior vice president for School Improvement. SREB offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including the TIAA-CREF retirement program.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and conduct training* for school leaders and teachers on alignment of curriculum and instruction to standards
  • Develop and conduct training for school leaders and teachers on engaging strategies that motivate students to meet strategies
  • Develop and conduct training for school leaders and teachers on embedding mathematics standards and strategies into academic and career/technical courses.
  • Align state and district mathematics curricula to national Common Core Standards and to SREB’s college- and career-readiness standards
  • Design and conduct research on the effects of school and classroom mathematics practices on student achievement.

  *Training will take place in a variety of formats, including Webinars, national workshops and on-site training at schools.

Skills/Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of mathematics curriculum and instruction appropriate for middle grades and high school students that will prepare students for further study and for entry and advancement in the workplace. The candidate should have experience aligning curriculum and instruction to state standards (the ideal candidate would be familiar with the Georgia math curriculum) ; using modern technologies to engage students and teachers in learning; know how to lead teachers to develop standards-based units; use a project-based learning approach to integrate standards across the curriculum, including mathematics into various career/technical courses; have effective public speaking and presentation experience; and have the ability to write guides and publications.

Required:
  • Master’s degree or higher level of training
  • Experience as a mathematics specialist, with evidence of leadership experience at the school or district level
  • Evidence of having prepared training materials and guides
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks


Research and Policy Coordinator, Educational Technology


Research and Policy Coordinator, Educational Technology is a full-time position with the Educational Technology Cooperative. It is anticipated that this position will be continuing; however, annual renewal is contingent upon satisfactory performance and acquisition of funding through grants or other external revenue sources.

The SREB Educational Technology Cooperative, comprised of state higher education and K-12 coordinating and governing boards, focuses on ways to help state leaders create and expand effective uses of technology in schools and colleges. This unique, multistate cooperative represents more than 3,300 school districts and nearly 800 colleges and universities in the 16 SREB states. It monitors and reports on a wide array of educational technology topics and works with states to use technology wisely.

The Research and Policy Coordinator reports to the SREB Director, Educational Technology. The Coordinator contributes to fulfilling SREB’s education technology goal to support schools, colleges and state education agencies as they create and expand effective uses of technology. This individual focuses on investigating and reporting on educational technology practices, trends and policies providing information and analysis through reports and presentations to Cooperative members, state-level leaders and policy-makers across the K-12 and postsecondary education sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging activities, issues and topics involving educational technology in K-12 and postsecondary education investigating those that are or may impact Cooperative constituencies. Responsibilities include: 
    • Gathering and organizing information including: monitoring, reviewing and analyzing national and state policies, practices and reports.
    • Identifying, proposing and managing evaluation studies, including literature reviews, research design, instrument development, data collection, and data analysis.
    • Writing findings and conclusions in a range of output products including reports, executive summaries, web-based interfaces, presentations and other media as required. Experience with writing, designing and formatting information for digital media including websites, blogs, and social networks is desirable.
    • May be asked to make presentations at Cooperative meetings and in other forums.
  • Respond to inquiries and issues from K-12 through postsecondary education.
  • Manage or coordinate relevant projects or programs of the Cooperative such as the annual survey and report on State Virtual Schools.
  • Assist Cooperative staff in seeking and developing grant and funding proposals that advance K-12 and postsecondary issues of the Cooperative.
  • Support general and ongoing Cooperative activities including meeting planning, assisting with meetings, create and prepare correspondence and other duties as assigned. Position will require some travel.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field required; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Work experience in postsecondary and/or K-12 education required, with experience in educational technology, educational policy research, or research writing preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, evidenced through professional communications, are a must.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to design and conduct investigative studies involving data collection, analysis, and report writing and delivery of presentations.
  • Experience of successful project management is required. Experience with complex and grant-funded projects a plus.
  • A track record of successful grant writing, development and management is desirable.
  • Candidate must have strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office tools. Advanced skill level using the Internet, Web-based applications, online communications and online survey tools and Microsoft Access and Excel to conduct research, organize and analyze data, maintain databases and produce reports preferred.
  • Candidate should be a self-starter and possess the ability to work independently.


Research Associate, Education Data Services


This detail-oriented individual works closely with the Director of Education Data Services to collect, analyze, organize and display data sets and information for the SREB-State Data Exchange, SREB Fact Book on Higher Education and related state-specific publications and electronic products.

Included are the following duties:
  • regularly inputs, organizes and analyzes data sets;
  • develops tabular and graphic displays of comparative information;
  • interacts with state postsecondary education agency data partners;
  • researches and assists with drafting topical reports or chapters;
  • assists with responding to inquiries; and, on occasion
  • drafts correspondence, prepares mailings and handles logistics for meetings; and
  • other duties as may be necessary.

Candidates should have a master’s degree with 2 years of experience in education data analysis and research, excellent writing and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet. The ability to work in Excel workbooks and databases with pivot tables and descriptive statistical analysis experience (including knowledge of SPSS PC or similar tools) are essential.
