What to Know About Presenting
Things to Know
- Presenters do need to register for the conference. However, they do get a presenter discount.
- It’s important to secure your housing early because our room block does fill up quickly.
- You can find your session description in our conference app once it is live. You will be able to edit your profile information and session description under the Presenter Service Center.
- Once you are at the conference, you will collect your badge at the registration booth.
- We will provide free WiFi for attendees and presenters at the conference. We will provide the login details to you closer to the conference date.
- Your room will be equipped with projectors, AV screens, and water stations. Rooms that seat 100 or more will also have microphones.
- If you need help at the conference, look for anyone in an SREB shirt.
- Attendees will be able to evaluate your session in the conference app. If you would like your session evaluation results, email us the week after conference has concluded using the contact link to the right of this page.
Please support us in our journey to reduce paper usage. Instead of printing, upload your handouts in the presenter service center.
Upload Guidelines
We do edit session descriptions for things like grammar and format as well as certain content guidelines. We may remove language or content that includes any of the following:
- Profanity/Offensive Materials/Pictures
- Copyrighted material that isn’t yours
- Materials or language deemed controversial – SREB is a non-partisan organization and our sessions and conference materials should be as well.
Session Guidelines
Make sure your session goes smoothly by using all of the following tips and guidance.

Session Dos
- If you can no longer make your presentation, let us know as soon as possible so that we can mark it in the app.
- Check your title and session description before you present and make sure that your planned session matches the description.
- Use our social media template to help promote your presentation. Follow it up with pictures and videos from your session. Use #SREBSummer.
- Bring your own laptops, dongles, chart paper/markers or speakers if you need them.
- Introduce yourself and announce your session title at the start.
- Connect your topic to SREB’s Making Schools Work frameworks.
- Make your session interactive:
- Include icebreakers and activities
- Create meaningful discussions
- Share links by providing QR codes and shortlinks, which can be created with tools such as Bitly.
- Start and end your session on time!
Session Don’ts
- Cancel your session without letting us know.
- Change the topic or focus of your session without updating your session description.
- Start early.
- Spend too long setting the stage (talking about your school/situation).
- Hand out swag or banners outside of your session to entice attendees to come in.
- Sell anything!
- Share or distribute copyrighted materials.
- Write on, tape or pin anything to session room walls
- Use anything involving flame, water, glue, paint, outside food, etc.
- Don not go over your time!
Presentation/PowerPoint Guidelines
- All sessions are 60 minutes long.
- For PowerPoint presentations, use widescreen format – no special template needed
- Keep slides uncluttered
- Use Arial for readability
- Make text at least 24pt.
- Avoid highlighting font.
- Avoid using more than two font colors, and do not use light colors.
- If you use audio or video, bring your own speaker(s) and download or embed videos ahead of time to prevent buffering.
