Why was the 2021 in-person conference cancelled?

Due to the health and safety concerns posed by mass gatherings during the pandemic, SREB was forced to cancel the in-person component of the 2021 Making Schools Work Conference in Nashville. Though disappointed not to be able to gather in person, we are delighted to proceed with our virtual event.

What will the all-virtual conference include?

Virtual attendees will have complete access to 100+ live and on-demand conference sessions, including our opening and closing keynotes, Wednesday general session, featured speaker sessions and regular conference sessions. What’s more, all sessions and conference resources will remain on-demand for more than 30 days after the conference.

Our eShow event platform offers many opportunities for virtual attendees to engage and interact with presenters, conference partners and each other in sessions, chats, Q&As, breakout rooms and discussion groups. Don’t miss special events like our virtual escape room, networking reception and prize giveaway, games, virtual lounge, virtual industry tours and more!

I already registered for the in-person conference. What do I do?

SREB will convert all current in-person conference registrations to virtual conference registrations beginning April 5. Refunds for the price difference will be made in May to your original method of payment.

You do not need to take any action to have your in-person registration converted to virtual.

If you would prefer to cancel and receive a full refund, you may do so with no penalty. To cancel and receive a full refund, use the login and password you received in your registration confirmation to access our Attendee Service Center on eShow, then click on the Edit Your Registration page, and select Cancel Registration.

All in-person registrants will receive a separate email announcing the in-person cancellation that includes a login and password for accessing the Attendee Service Center.

How do I convert my in-person registration to a virtual registration?

You do not need to take any action to have your in-person registration converted to virtual.

I already reserved my hotel room. What do I do?

Connections Housing will automatically cancel all hotel reservations booked for the 2021 in-person conference. A cancellation notification will be sent to the email address provided when reservations were booked.

There will be no penalty for cancellations, and no further action is needed from attendees regarding their hotel reservations.

I was scheduled to present a session at the in-person conference. Can I still present it?

Unfortunately, we are unable to convert all in-person sessions to virtual sessions.

If you were presenting a session at the in-person conference only, you will receive an email with information about how to resubmit your session for guaranteed acceptance at the 2022 Making Schools Work Conference, July 19-22 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. If we already contacted you about presenting at our virtual conference, you will receive a separate email containing information about your presentation.

I was asked to present a livestream session at the in-person conference. What happens to that session?

Your session is still on! We will contact you soon about next steps and instructions for prerecording your session and/or livestreaming your session from your home, office or other location.

I am a presenter. How do I use SREB’s eShow system to present my session?

All presenters will be required to attend a mandatory training on how to access our eShow virtual event module and present their sessions on eShow’s Big Marker videoconferencing platform.

What are the best computer, browser and internet settings for accessing the virtual conference?

Here are our top five tips for using our eShow virtual platform.

  1. Use a desktop or laptop with an up-to-date OS
  2. Turn off your VPN
  3. Use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox or Edge (avoid Safari and Internet Explorer) and consider disabling adblockers or other extensions
  4. Test your internet speed at www.speedtest.net
    • 20 MBPS upload/20 MBPS download are eShow’s recommended minimum speeds for reliably accessing conference events, but you may do well at lower speeds. Speeds of 100 MBPS upload/100 MBPS download are ideal.
    • Poor Wi-Fi? Try plugging directly into your router!
  5. Shut down any unnecessary programs

A complete conference program is now available!

Will there be a printed program in 2021?

We are not printing programs this year. Attendees are encouraged to consult our online conference program, virtual event platform or mobile app.

Is there a conference mobile app?

Yes! Download our official conference app to access each day’s schedule, partner listings, venue maps, speaker bios and more. The app will allow you to search for sessions by keywords, session types, topics, times, intended audiences, grade levels and more. A link to the conference app will be posted soon.

What’s included in conference registration fees?

Your virtual registration fee includes access to 100+ live and on-demand conference sessions during the event and for more 30 days after the event, our virtual reception and prize giveaway, games, lounge, chats, eBag for conference documents, and other online services during the event (July 6-9).

When does the conference begin and end?

Registration begins at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6. Conference activities kick off with an opening general session at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and end at noon on Friday, July 9.

I have not received confirmation of my registration. What should I do?

Send us an email with your request for a confirmation.

How do I make changes to my conference registration?

Visit our Attendee Service Center with the login and password that were emailed to you or email us for assistance.

May I switch from in-person to virtual registration (or vice versa)?

Yes! Please contact us at summerstaffdev@sreb.org.

I would like to present a session, too. What do I need to do?

Our proposal system closed on October 30, 2020. We will open our system for 2022 submissions in July 2021. In the meantime, learn more about our conference objectives and session types and check out our new Submission FAQ.

I registered but can’t attend. May someone else go in my place?

Yes! Please send an email requesting the change that includes the registrant’s name and the new attendee’s name and complete contact information.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you registered for the in-person conference and do not wish to attend the virtual conference, you may cancel and receive a full refund with no penalty. To cancel and receive a full refund, use the login and password from your registration confirmation to access our Attendee Service Center, then click on the Edit Your Registration page, and select Cancel Registration.

You may also convert your in-person registration to a virtual registration at no penalty and receive a refund of the difference between the in-person and virtual registration rates. You do not need to take any action to have your in-person registration converted to virtual. SREB will convert all current in-person conference registrations to virtual conference registrations beginning April 5. Refunds for the price difference will be made in May to your original method of payment.

Virtual conference cancellations: You may cancel your virtual conference registration up to the first day of the conference, July 6, 2021, without penalty. Because all of our virtual conference sessions will be available on-demand for 30 days after the conference, cancellations during the week of the conference will not be permitted. SREB will consider extraordinary circumstances for a cancellation on a case-by-case basis. Please email us.

We will publish a guide to ensuring you have the strongest, most stable internet connection to support participation in the virtual strand of our conference (TBA).

What types of payments are acceptable?

Our eShow registration system accepts MasterCard, Visa and Discover. If you wish to pay with a check or purchase order, please send payment to:

Is there a registration deadline?

No. Online registration will remain open throughout the event.

Is payment due before the conference?

Payments should be made at the time of registration but can also be made or updated in our Attendee Service Center using the login and password that were emailed to you when you registered.

Is payment still due even though I did not attend the conference?

Yes, you are responsible for either the full registration fee or a cancellation fee.

I need special accommodations at the conference. What do I do?

If you require special accommodations at the 2021 Making Schools Work Conference, send a written description of your needs to summerstaffdev@sreb.org and we will be pleased to help you.

What is SREB’s communications permission and release policy?

In consideration of registering for a Southern Regional Education Board conference, event or training session, participants grant SREB permission to record, videotape and photograph their images or voices and to use, reproduce, publish and display their names, photographs, video images or quoted material in any format or media including, without limitation, printed and electronic publications and materials, press releases, webpages, internet publications and other publications, materials, information and communications, at its discretion, for purposes consistent with its mission and nonprofit status. By registering, participants agree that they are not entitled to receive, and waive any right to, compensation for any such use of their images or voices. Participants who wish to opt out should notify SREB conference, event or training session staff.

What is SREB’s data policy?

When you register for the Making Schools Work Conference or similar SREB events or services, we request information to identify you uniquely and gather aggregate information about your use of our conference and event resources. 

We will never sell your information to another organization. We use your information only to improve to the quality of our conference and other resources and to contact you with updates.
