Presenters will discuss the highly interactive Advocacy Training Program developed at LSU Health – New Orleans and offered to countless baccalaureate nursing students. The two-hour course, implemented in four schools of nursing, features: a check on the degree to which “I treat everyone the same,” the need for greater sensitivity, a vocabulary game, understanding the CASS model, creating inclusive spaces for patients, and a Q & A session with a transgendered male. Research has found improved attitudes toward LGBT+ individuals after the course.

Presented by: Todd Tartavoulle and Jessica Landry, School of Nursing, LSU Health – New Orleans
