SREB School Leader Induction Framework

Strong school leaders shape school culture, strengthen teacher retention and improve student outcomes. High-quality induction is one of the most important ways districts can prepare and support new principals and assistant principals as they step into these complex leadership roles.

Drawing on SREB’s experience supporting novice school leaders, as well as current research, policy and data, this guidance document outlines four core components of effective induction for school leaders. It also provides practical recommendations for school districts, leaders, mentors, supervisors and professional learning providers to build induction systems that strengthen leadership skills, improve school culture, elevate teaching and learning, and promote long-term success.
