The Request

During November 2016, legislators from Alabama and North Carolina asked the educator effectiveness team to share research studies and state policies that address incentives to recruit and retain effective principals.

Our Response

Our team created a briefing that summarizes five research studies that provide guidance on how to design principal incentive strategies and construct measures to rate administrator performance. The briefing profiles eight SREB states that require or authorize district action for administrator incentives. Our team also included three considerations for designing, piloting and supporting administrator incentive systems.
