James Stone
Director, National Research Center for Career and Technical Education
James (Jim) R. Stone III joined the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education at the Southern Regional Education Board in 2014 as director. In this capacity, he has worked with project-based learning, Teaching to Lead, and other career and technical education initiatives. Prior to SREB, Jim held faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Minnesota and most recently as a distinguished scholar at the University of Louisville.
Marty Sugerik
School Improvement Instructional Coach
Marty Sugerik joined SREB’s school improvement team in 2011, bringing more than 15 years of experience in the public education sector. As an instructional coach for state and district partnerships, he facilitates training, differentiated coaching and high-quality professional development for teachers, support personnel and school and district leaders.
Joseph Tadlock
Director of Research and Evaluation
Joseph Tadlock joined the Southern Regional Education Board in January 2017 as senior research associate. Prior to SREB, he worked for the South Carolina Department of Education, and as a special education teacher. He has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, as well as conducting experimental, quasi experimental and correlational research designs.
Linda Tyree
Program Director, SREB Crisis Recovery Support Network
Linda Tyree leads the Crisis Recovery Support Network at SREB, managing, directing and providing professional learning for the crisis recovery counselors across the SREB region. She joined SREB in 2025, bringing more than 35 years of experience in the public education sector. Linda served as a teacher, school counselor and school safety consultant. She led crisis response teams in Kentucky at both the regional and state level. She is also a past president of the Kentucky School Counselor Association.
Carita Venable
Senior Leadership Coach
Carita Venable joined SREB’s office of School Improvement in 2015. As a senior leadership coach, she brings more than 20 years of educational experience.
Prior to SREB, Carita served as an English language arts teacher, instructional coach, district school improvement supervisor, assistant principal and principal in school districts throughout the Jefferson County region.
Dale Winkler
Senior Vice President, School Improvement
Dale Winkler is senior vice president for school improvement at the Southern Regional Education Board.
He joined the Southern Regional Education Board in 2015 as special assistant to the senior vice president of the school improvement office. He was named vice president of school improvement in 2018 and senior vice president in 2023. He served as SREB’s interim president during late 2025 and early 2026.
Winkler has decades of experience in leadership and policy in the areas of college and career readiness and career pathways, including leading two commissions on pathways at SREB.

Aimee Wyatt
Unit Director, Leadership and Strategic Initiatives
Aimee Wyatt is the Unit Director of Leadership and Professional Learning for the Southern Regional Education Board. She develops tools to support continuous improvement efforts as well as provides professional learning for SREB staff, schools, districts and states. Formerly, she was the Executive Officer for High Schools for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and has over 30 years of experience as a district supervisor, executive principal, assistant principal, middle and high school teacher and consultant.
